HOW DO YOU DO?

Pick up a tongue is the logo of "how do you do" website. This site provides the users of actual language speakers. So, the learners who want to improve their language can find native speakers to practice the language with. The user/learner is able to find conversation partners, improve his/her language and meet new people from all over the world. On this site, there are over 12000 members from 130 countries who speak more than 80 languages. The registration is free so the user can sign up by adding the email address and making a password. After that the user can pick for himself a nickname or use his actual name and add his mother tongue and the other languages he speaks or want to improve. During this stage the user can show his level in all these languages after that he can start chatting either written chatting or video and audio calls. The user will find for sure some users are better than others; so here he can give a recommendation for those who are good and by the number of the users' recommendations you can choose good partners. There are also special icons for the teachers in any language and the site also provides group chatting icons.

 

     I have been a user on this website for seven months and I had a chance to meet people from different countries who for sure have different cultures and life experiences. They have various educational levels some of them are teachers in schools and universities and others are students and workers. That helps me to have several topics to talk about and actually I had casual conversations with some users but we had to some extent daily conversations so I had a chance to know their interests and their cultural background. One of them was an Iranian doctor who is working in Tehran University and he taught me some Persian words and phrases. It is fun to be a member of this site because it is more than an educational website, but it is a place where we can talk about our religious beliefs, express ourselves and give advices.  

Apparently this site has its own contribution in the field of language learning. And to keep this site active and useful those who are working on it must make some surveys to know which features the users like and don’t like. As we know nothing is perfect, so this site also has its weakness. There is no educational content such as texts, audios or videos. Such content is important for the learners.  But the main goal is to provide actual language users and create a better community for them and I think the designers have achieved it.
